become an counselor at curious jane!

Counselor positions are currently full at our Brooklyn locations. You are welcome to apply and we will be in touch if anything opens up.

The Counselor position is open to applicants ages 18-years and older and who are college students or who have completed high school by the start of camp.

Our counselors assist our classroom instructors. They help prepare for projects, work with the girls, and jump in wherever needed in the busy, busy camp day. The full description is listed below.

Dates vary by location, and preference is given to counselors who can commit to the full run of camp at their location (generally 4 to 6 weeks, or just 2 weeks at our smaller pop-up locations). However, we occasionally have ‘split session’ positions available.

Update –
we have *limited* availability for counselor positions at our Brooklyn locations. At ISB, we are currently full. And at BCS we have only the weeks of July 8 – Aug 2. Additional positions may become available after March 1.

about us

Curious Jane runs project-based summer day camps for girls ages 5 to 11, with weekly themes  revolving around science +  engineering + design. CAMP is how Curious Jane started and it remains at the heart of what we do.

Our niche is in designing an easy and engaging on-ramp to *making  things* – experimenting, exploring, creating and thinking with your hands. We combine colorful supplies and simple materials into DIY projects with a sophisticated learning twist or technique. We make fun things and make things fun!

The culture of Curious Jane is rooted in collaboration, creative problem solving, confidence building and accountability. The heart of Curious Jane is our projects – they reflect all of these things, rolled up with our personality and a good dose of fun!

Curious Jane was founded in 2009 by Samantha Razook to give her daughters, and all girls, a place to be creative and inventive in a fun, high-energy environment.

how camp works

  • Curious Jane Camp is for girls ages 5 to 11. They are grouped by age according to the grade they are entering in fall – K-1st, 2nd-3rd and 4th-6th.
  • Camp is organized around class themes, and multiple themes may be offered each week.
  • Girls attend for one or more weeks, and sign-up for their favorite theme each week.
  • At camp, we also have CITs (rising 7th-9th grade girls) and High School Volunteers (10th-12th)
  • Our class size is limited to 12 campers, with a Lead Instructor, Counselor and Volunteer.
  • The camp day runs 8:45am – 3:30pm, and the staff commitment is 8:15am – 4:15pm.
  • Each day is full and active! You can see a sample daily schedule on our website for more details.

staff structure

We build staff teams to work at each camp location. Our small group here at CJ HQ conducts the interviews and hires the staff team for each location. Once summer starts, the On-Site Director becomes the leader for each team, and we support our teams through the Director.

• On-Site Director leads the staff and oversees all aspects of their location-specific camp.
• Instructors teach a specific class (or classes) and are in the lead role in the classroom.
• Counselors assist the Instructor. The Instructor-Counselor pair is key.
• Volunteers and CITs are placed at some, but not all, locations, and help in a variety of ways.
