Rainbow Cloud Pillow

overview

this is a simple hand-sewing project with a big pay-off. the supplies are easy to source – we went online for soft felt by the yard and 2-inch wide satin ribbons in a rainbow pack!

maker checklist

large sheets of white felt
poster board and marker
good scissors
embroidery needle
embroidery or rayon thread
poly-fil stuffing
satin ribbon in rainbow colors

instructions

draw a simple cloud shape on a large piece of poster board. give it a straight edge at the bottom, and cut it out.

trace the template on a large piece of thick white felt, and cut it out. make two pieces.

tip!

draw it on the “back” side of the felt (depending on which way you want the cloud to face) so the marker does not show up in your final piece.

stack the two pieces of felt on top of each other so they are well-aligned and pin in place.

sew around the edges of your cloud, starting at the bottom left corner then up and over the top. PAUSE once you reach the bottom right corner.

stuff your cloud with poly-fil or other stuffing.

cut streamers of wide satin ribbon for the rainbow. place 1-inch of the ribbon inside the cloud, between the two felt layers; arrange to create a rainbow, and pin to secure.

continue sewing across the bottom edge of the cloud, making sure to include the ribbons in your stitching.

tie-off your thread at the end, and remember to remove all the pins!
