hands-on project

Let's make it.

01

design a fun character for your squishy onto 8.5 x 11 paper, and cut it out. this is your pattern.

make it a simple shape that is flat across the bottom. this makes it much easier to tape.

02

trace your pattern onto two sheets of color paper, one is the front of your squishy and the other is the back. don’t cut out yet!

03

outline the front of your squishy in black sharpie and add a few details to give your character… character!

you can also print an image onto color cardstock like we did for the front of our characters.

04

cut out the front and set it to the side.

05

cover the *back* of the back of your character in packing tape from head to toe. smooth out wrinkles as you go. cut it out after you apply the tape so you have a back that is smoothly laminated in tape.

for the back, tape then cut. for the front, cut then tape. this gives it the finished product a smooth look.

06

stack the front onto the back, making sure they are well-aligned.

07

tape the front from top to bottom, wrapping the ends around the sides to the back, so it is securely sealed all around.

leave the bottom open.

08

stuff your squishy with tissue paper or poly-fil and seal it with a final piece of tape along the bottom
