maker checklist

  • plastic soda bottle (16oz)
  • packet of dry yeast
  • water (tap + heated)
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • blue Dawn dish soap
  • craft stick +small cup 
  • kitchen funnel
  • measuring cups + spoons
  • tray to set up experiment

instructions

dissolve 1 tsp yeast in very warm water in a small cup and set aside.

set the empty bottle in a shallow tray, and hold in place to set the funnel on top.

pour 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide into the bottle. you can also add a few drops of food coloring to tint the peroxide like toothpaste!

add a big squirt of blue Dawn dish soap (about 2T) to the peroxide…

pour the yeast mixture into the bottle and quickly remove the funnel. watch the reaction! foam will form in the bottle and bubble right out the top…

notice the temperature of the soda the reaction is exothermic, which means it produces heat!
