watermelon soap

this was easier to make than we thought! keep your eye on the microwave when you are melting the soap and soften it as needed. the ‘cake slice’ silicone mold makes this a cinch!

Supplies

goat’s milk soap base (white)

glycerin soap base (clear)

soap colorants (red and green)

watermelon fragrance oil

silicone soap mold (triangle)

hands-on project

Let's make it.

01

melt 10 ounces of the clear glycerin soap in a small pyrex glass cup in the microwave; stop and stir every 30 seconds until melted.

if you’re going for watermelon slice perfection… have a few small plastic cups on hand so you can test your colors and thickness of your layers

02

add a few drops of green colorant; mix until well combined.

a little goes a long way. start with just a few drops and add more, little by little, until the color is just right. be a color chemist

03

pour the soap into each cavity in your triangle mold so it is about a quarter of the way filled. this is the first layer; it’s the rind! let set before moving on to the next layer.

04

melt 1 cup of goats milk white soap base in the same way. pour a thin layer on top of the green soap layer, and let set.

05

melt 1 pound of the clear glycerin soap base slowly and carefully as before. this will be your watermelon fruit layer.

06

add a few drops of the fragrance oil and a few drops of red colorant. mix it up until well combined. add more red as needed to achieve a dark pink watermelon color.

07

pour the soap to the top of each cavity and let set completely before removing

popping it into the fridge between layers makes this move much faster!
